James P. Warner  MA, LPC, LCPC, ACS

Licensed Professional Counselor, NJ
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, ID

Many years working in an in-home, multicultural, inner-city residential program for Emotionally Disturbed Children and transitioning to adults with Developmental Disabilities provided a strong foundation  to address a wide variety of clinical issues.

My theoretical method is a developmental approach to support a thorough comprehensive diagnostic understanding and motivate clients toward a positive sustainable solution focused recovery.
Life provides the opportunity to discover one’s path. I found my passion as a young boy through swimming, surfing, running and the exhilaration of skiing. I knew exactly what career I wanted. Sports.
While struggling with learning disabilities I attended school in Stowe, Vermont which led to attendance at Mount Hood Race Camps--my path to professional ski racing.
Armed with certifications as a Canadian ski instructor and ski coach I attended the University of Maine at Farmington. The university had achieved a Division II men’s championship. There I was able to author the first article on sport psychology with the United States Ski Association with Dr. Leon Pines PhD.
I started my academics as a physical trainer while achieving an advanced YMCA graduate fitness Certification I.  At Columbia University the integration between physiology and psychology became the perfect foundation for a career in Alpine ski coaching followed with the National Coaches Academy.
Alpine ski coaching allowed me to achieve positions as a Maine state team coach, and Eastern regional coach, a California state team coach, and a Division I head coach for both men and women at Montana State.
However, psychology remained as much a passion as sports. I completed a Master’s Degree from Marist College in psychology with a focus in counseling and a second Masters at Marist College in Mental Health Counseling. Completing licensure requirements provided the opportunity to utilize the skills and develop a stronger in-depth application in psychology.
Seven years work in a residential program for Emotionally Disturbed Children and a transition to adults with Developmental Disabilities provided a strong foundation to address a wide variety of clinical issues.
My theoretical method is a developmental approach to support a thorough comprehensive, diagnostic understanding to motivate clients toward a positive sustainable solution-focused recovery.
Life provides the opportunity to discover one’s path. I found my passion as a young boy through swimming, surfing, running and the exhilaration of skiing. I knew exactly what career I wanted. Sports.
